Tim Walz’s Vice Presidential Nomination Boosts Democrats’ Green Image Despite Past Controversial Climate Votes in Congress.

As Minnesota governor, Democrat Tim Walz, has been praised by environmental advocates for his aggressive actions to curb climate change as a vice presidential nominee. However, as a six-term congressman, Walz was largely known for his lack of an ambitious climate record in Congress. He often chose to focus on agriculture issues and veterans affairs over environmental causes, often aligning with the mainstream Democratic position. He also voted to complete construction of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline and supported legislation to fund infrastructure projects with revenue from expanded oil and gas drilling. Despite these setbacks, environmental advocates argue that his selection as vice president has boosted the green bona fides of the Democratic presidential ticket.
