Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating CenterPoint Energy’s response to Hurricane Beryl, which left almost 2.3 million customers without power for over a week. The allegations stem from allegations of fraud, waste, and improper use of taxpayer-provided funds. The utility, which leased $800 million for use during emergencies, was largely ineffective in restoring power. CenterPoint has committed to transparency and cooperation in post-storm hearings before the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the Senate and the House. If the investigation uncovers unlawful activity, it will be met with the full force of the law. The Public Utility Council of Texas has issued requests for information from power generators, retail electric providers, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, Entergy and others.
