Tesla has taken over the lead BESS producer globally from Sungrow and Fluence, taking 72% of North America’s market share for BESS shipments in 2023, marking a 20% increase from 20% YoY. The US buildout of microgrids nearly doubled for commercial and industrial users in the same year, reaching 900MW. Despite this, China’s BESS market is largely dominated by domestic companies, with six of the global top 10 vendors being China-based. Wood Mackenzie’s report attributes this shift to China’s dominance in the market. The report also noted that the global BESS integrator market is becoming increasingly competitive, particularly in China, resulting in declining market concentration.
