T&D World Magazine Celebrates 75 Years, Reflecting on Industry Evolution and Future of Power Grids.

The 75th anniversary of T&D World magazine is set to be published later this year, with the author recalling his start to his engineering career as a substation engineer at a local electrical utility. He recalls his first issue of the magazine, which he joined the staff after graduating from college with no knowledge of the technical implications of the substation process. The magazine’s editor, Rick Bush, convinced him to start writing magazine articles after meeting with him at educational conferences. As his career progressed, he saw a shift within the industry towards digital technology and a more global perspective, and this shift shifted his focus shifted towards writing articles based on real-world experience. However, a global perspective is not enough in the 21st century, with technology expanding beyond the physical world to include virtual power plants, virtual twins, and self-aware grids. The author also discusses the potential impact of this shift in power grids on the future of the industry.
