Tandem PV, a perovskite solar cell developer, has received a $4.7 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Office to advance commercialization of its thin-film solar technology. The award is part of a larger $71 million investment by DOE to bolster the U-S. solar supply chain. Tandem PV’s design combines conventional silicon cells with Perovskites, giving them the potential to produce up to 40% more power than current cells. The company plans to receive industry-standard validations of the durability and efficiency of its perovskiites by 2024.
