Swift Solar has received US$27 million for its efforts to scale “efficient and stable tandem technology” in the US. The funds will aid the company’s efforts to develop a manufacturing facility, which has been a major obstacle to the industrial development of perovskite tandem products due to its degradation when exposed to the elements. This money follows US$7 million received from the US Department of Energy last month as part of investments into thin-film and silicon-based domestic solar manufacturing projects. Joel Jean, co-founder and CEO of Swift Solar, stated that the funds will bring advanced solar manufacturing back to the US and strengthen the domestic renewable energy sector. The company believes that perovskiite technology could reduce the cost of solar energy by up to 30%.
