Survivors and advocates urge DOJ to investigate oil industry for climate crimes linked to natural disasters.

Over 1,000 survivors of wildfires, floods, and hurricanes are urging the Department of Justice (DG) to investigate the oil and gas industry for alleged climate crimes. The survivors argue that the fossil fuel industry’s role in accelerating climate change and worsening natural disasters is a consistent throughline. They also include over 9,000 climate advocates. The letter argues that the oil industry has known about the dangers of burning fossil fuels since the 1950s but has sought to mislead the public.
