Supreme Court Allows Companies to Challenge Federal Rules, Sparking Concerns Over Legal Chaos and Regulatory Impact.

The Supreme Court has ruled that companies harmed by federal rules can challenge them in court, regardless of their long-standing regulations. The ruling, which divided the court on ideological grounds, led to calls for Congress to intervene. Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who wrote for the majority, argued that this decision could lead to a “tsunami of lawsuits” that could handcuff federal regulators. In a dissenting opinion, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson warned that the court’s decision, which also overturned the basis for several Supreme Court decisions upholding rules from EPA, could result in chaos.
