Sunrun’s Peak Power Rewards program boosts California solar interest amid job losses and NEM 3.0 challenges.

Sunrun customers provided electricity to the PG&E grid during peak periods, when California’s electricity demand is at its highest. The Peak Power Rewards program achieved a customer participation rate and power supply volume that’s never been achieved before, according to Sunrun CEO Mary Powell. The news could encourage interest in the California residential solar sector, which has been struggling for over a year following the passing of NEM 3.0, which aims to encourage greater adoption of battery storage technology. However, this has led to significant layoffs among solar developers, with around 22% of all solar jobs in California at risk. The 6th Energy Storage Summit USA will be held in Austin, Texas in 2024.
