Suniva Inc, a US solar cell manufacturer, announced on Wednesday that it will expand and restart its factory in Norcross, Georgia, with a 1-GW capacity in production restarting by the spring of 2024. The plans include a second phase of expansion boosting annual manufacturing capacity up to 2.5 GW, with production anticipated to start by spring 2024. Suniva secured a USD 110 million financing commitment from Orion Infrastructure Capital (OIC) to bankroll the expansion, and signed a multi-year agreement for the supply of wafers. The announcement marks the first step in rebuilding solar cell manufacturing in the US, following the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.
