Study: Solar Power Facilities Boost Agricultural Value, Enhance Insect Life, and Support Local Farming Economies.

Solar power facilities can enhance the value of neighboring agricultural operations by integrating local grasses and flowers into solar power facilities, according to a study by Enel. The study revealed a tripling of insect life over five years, with bee populations increasing by twentyfold. Solar panels can also cultivate microclimates, increasing grasses consumed by cows and sheep by up to 90%. This has also significantly contributed to pollination in nearby soybean farms. Solar farms in California could provide up to $264 million in annual benefits to farmers, offseting significant costs for bee pollination services during the bloom season. An analysis of 32 solar facilities in Slovakia found an increase in bird species’ richness and abundance.
