Oil and gas companies are using state law to force compliance for hydraulic fracturing (fracking) on Ohio property, according to a study published in Nature Energy. The study found that companies engaged in “bullying” tactics over a seven-year period, including contacting family members and neighbors of landowners or pressuring them while they were in the hospital. The lead author of the study, Ben Farrer, argued that if fracking is being done well, it should be treated well for the people most affected by it.
