Southwest Airlines Acquires US Corn Stover to Boost Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production in Strategic Initiative.

Southwest Airlines Co (NYSE:LUV) has acquired the US corn stover from SAFFiRE Renewables LLC, a renewable ethanol technology company, to advance its strategy to replace a portion of its total jet fuel consumption with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The company is part of a project supported by the Department of Energy (DoE), which will initially use technology developed at the NREL’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory for the production of renewable ethanol. This acquisition follows Southwest’s recent $30-million investment in LanzaJet.
