Solar Energy Surges: Over Half of New U.S. Electric Capacity in 2023, U.K. Sees Record Growth.

Solar energy accounted for over half of new U.S. electric generating capacity in 2023, according to a report by consulting firm Wood Mackenzie and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). The report highlights the impact of incentives in 2022’s Inflation Reduction Act on the pace of solar energy deployment and identifies potential hurdles for the sector. Last year, the U.K. added a record 32.4 gigawatts of new solar power generating capacity, up 51 percent from 2022. The 2023 total also marked an increase of 37 percent from 2021.
