SMA Solar Reports Growth in Large-Scale Inverter Sales Amid Decline in Distributed Inverter Sales in Q1 2024.

SMA Solar has reported a growth in large-scale inverter sales, but a decline in distributed inverters sales in Q1 2024. Sales in other sectors also fell from €163.3 million to €62.6 million in the home solutions sector, €80.2 million to $86.2m in the C&I sector, and €70.5 million (US$75.8 million) in the industrial sector. This was due to an oversupply of solar products to the European market and a decrease in earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation. However, SMA Solar’s CEO, Jürgen Reinert, remains optimistic about these losses, arguing that many of these macro-economic factors will pass in time. Despite these setbacks, 2023 was a positive year for the company, with its annual inverter sale almost doubling since 2018. There are concerns about the viability of solar manufacturing in Europe due to the availability of low-cost Chinese solar products, and plans to invest in new manufacturing facilities in the US.
