Senate Hearing to Consider Designating PFAS as Hazardous Substances Under Superfund Law for Stricter Cleanup Measures

A Senate Environment and Public Works Committee hearing is set to examine a draft rule that would designate the two most commonly detected and studied PFAS as hazardous substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, or the Superfund law. This designation would trigger stricter reporting requirements and require polluters to contribute to cleanup. It could lead to areas contaminated with PFOA or PFOOS being eligible to be listed as Superfund sites.
