Senate Committees to Hold Hearings on Wildfire Crisis Amid Texas’s Largest Fire, Smokehouse Creek, Investigation.

Two Senate committees are set to hold hearings to address the wildfire crisis, investigating how federal agencies can better protect communities and manage fire-prone federal lands. The Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hear testimony from Biden administration officials on the findings and recommendations of a federal wildfire commission created through a bipartisan infrastructure law. The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will also hear from state, federal and local officials on responding to the ongoing crisis. The hearings are timely as Xcel Energy announced it may have started the largest wildfire in Texas history, the Smokehouse Creek fire.
