SEMA Calls for Action on Below-Cost Solar Imports Amid Yellen’s Visit and Trade Concerns with China

The Solar Energy Manufacturers for America (SEMA) Coalition has called for immediate action against below-cost imports of solar modules, which are being stockpiled far beyond the level of demand. The coalition also called for an update of the guidance for the domestic content bonus credit, which allows a predominantly Chinese-made solar panel to count as “US-made” with minimal processing and assembly in the US. The statement was made during US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s visit to China, where Yellen stated that any measures, including tariffs, on Chinese green energy exports would not be ruled out. The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) also voiced concerns about potential trade measures.
