Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has stated that if Democrats regain control of the House, Senate, and White House in November, they would consider another attempt at federal climate legislation. This would include the budget reconciliation process, which allows a majority to bypass the Senate filibuster to advance party-line legislation. Schumer did not specify what he wanted a climate-focused reconciliation bill to include, but he emphasized policies to zero carbon emissions in the next 25 years. This comes as Republicans are preparing budget reconciliation plans to extend 2018 tax cuts if they win the elections. Schumer also mentioned that he was hopeful the Senate could vote on rail safety legislation by the end of September.
