Romney and Manchin Introduce Bill to Limit Telework for Federal Employees to 40 Percent of Workdays

Sens. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) have introduced the “Back to Work Act of 2024” which would cap telework at 40 percent of the days within an employee’s pay period and require agencies to report performance measures related to the practice. The bill comes as civil servants have been working from home since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic emergency response. The administration has faced increased pressure from Republican lawmakers and local officials to have government staff work more often.
