Researchers from UC Santa Barbara, Pusan National University, and Korea Electric Power Research Institute have developed a revolutionary room-temperature-processed perovskite solar cells with an efficiency of over 24%. The researchers added an organic linker to the material, allowing for high-quality film formation at room temperature without the need for high temperature annealing. This innovation increased the material’s efficiency from under 20% to 24.4%. The new method, which omits thermal ansealing and post-treatment steps, achieved efficiencies of 23.2% (24.4% with an anti-reflective coating). The process is gentle and energy-efficient, making it more compatible with standard manufacturing processes. The researchers demonstrated the process by placing a perovskiite layer on fresh leaves, highlighting the potential for sustainable light energy usage.
