Republican lawmakers have questioned Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) official Victoria Salinas over wasteful projects for preparing for climate change. The House subcommittee hearing was held to defend billions in grants given to states and municipalities for flood protection and other projects. The Republicans accused Salinas of using funds for projects that involve planting trees. An analysis by E&E News showed that five large states, including California and Florida, received significant amounts of funds from FEMA’s largest grant program while many small states received little.
