Rep. Kelly Armstrong to Lead GOP Delegation at COP28 After Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ Scheduling Conflict

The United Nations climate summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will no longer be led by House Energy and Commerce Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers due to a scheduling conflict. Replacing her with Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-N.D.), the vice chair of E&C. The switch-up came as a surprise to many House Republicans, who had been anticipating the significance of McMonris Rodgers’ leadership of the delegation. Over a dozen Republicans are currently scheduled to attend the trip, many for the first time, and the number of Republicans is also expected to eclipse Democrats. The conference, COP28, is also being hosted by the president of the UAE’s state-run oil company.
