Rep. Greg Steube Forces Vote on Disaster Tax Relief Bill, Urges Senate Action After House Approval.

Florida Republican Rep. Greg Steube has achieved a rare feat in modern congressional terms, forcing a floor vote on legislation that would provide tax relief for losses due to federally declared disasters. He used a rarely successful procedural tool, the discharge petition, to secure a vote on his legislation, H.R. 5863. The bill is aimed at helping victims of hurricanes, wildfires, and the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment. The most recent successful discharge petition was in 2015 by the Export-Import Bank. Steube called for the Senate to act swiftly once H. R. 5873 passes the House.
