Record-Breaking North Atlantic Temperatures Heighten Concerns for Florida’s Coral Reef and Marine Conservation Efforts.

The North Atlantic is experiencing record-breaking temperatures, raising concerns about another wave of marine heat. This concern is particularly concerning for experts working to protect Florida’s coral reef, the only extensive reef system in the continental United States. The Coral Restoration Foundation, a marine conservation nonprofit based in the Florida Keys, has been growing new corals in offshore nurseries and relocating them to the Florida reef, a process known as outplanting. This strategy aims to bolster threatened and endangered coral species while enhancing the reef’s resilience to environmental disturbances.
