Realtors and FEMA Urge Congress to Expand Flood Insurance Coverage Amid Climate Change Concerns and Market Needs.

The National Association of Realtors (Realtors) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are urging Congress to address climate change by helping people buy flood insurance. The National Flood Insurance Program, or NFIP, sells most of the nation’s flood policies but only about 4 percent of U.S. properties have coverage. This is a long-awaited overhaul to FEMA’s ailing flood insurance program, which is critical to the real estate market.
