Private equity firms Quantum Capital Group and Carlyle plan to buy independent power producer Cogentrix Energy from each other for about $3 billion. The deal involves 5.3 GW of gas-fired power plants in the PJM Interconnection, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, and ISO New England markets. Quantum plans to “meaningfully grow” Coggentrix with a focus on gas-driven power generation, renewables, and battery storage. The companies expect the deal to close late this year or early in 2025.
