Pro-Environmental Activists Condemn Oil and Gas Presence at Democratic National Convention Side Event in Chicago.

Pro-environmental activists are angry that oil and gas interests were given a platform at a side event at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The anger reflects tensions between the left-wing of the Democratic Party and the fossil fuel industry, which has been a key figure in its climate messaging. Three groups, Friends of the Earth, Climate Hawks Vote and Oil Change U.S., released a statement condemning the event’s lineup and calling for companies like Exxon Mobil to be shown the door. The group that disrupted the event only made it into the event after the Exxon Mobil panels had concluded and a lunch break was getting underway.
