Pennsylvania state Sen. Gene Yaw, the Republican leader of the state Senate Environmental Resources & Energy Committee, has proposed a law that would prevent local governments from receiving a share of state oil revenues from pursuing climate lawsuits against oil companies. The legislation would prevent distribution of fees generated from natural gas development to any county suing over fossil fuel use. This comes after Bucks County became the first Pennsylvania county to sue the fossil fuel industry for climate impacts, joining a legal fight launched by over two dozen local governments across the nation.
