Ørsted and Eversource halt gas plant development; New initiatives in clean energy and climate resilience emerge across the region.

The energy company, Ørsted and Eversource, has ended development of a natural gas plant near Pittsburgh after nearly a decade of activism against the project due to current market conditions. The company also announced a multi-year partnership with the University of Connecticut to study the impact of offshore wind farms on marine life. Maine’s governor and oil companies have raised concerns that a new heat pump rebate policy could risk public safety by disconnecting fossil fuel boilers, which are often used as backup to heat pumps.
