The Ontario government has pledged to support Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in the C$2bn ($1.5bn) budget for the refurbishment of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station in Durham, Southern Ontario. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2030s and could create nearly 11,000 jobs per year. Once refurbished, the station is projected to generate a total of 2GW of electricity, enough to power two million homes. The support from the provincial government will enable the company to undertake engineering and design work apart from procuring long-lead components.
