Ontario Government Awards Historic 1.8 GW Battery Storage Capacity in Largest Procurement in Canadian History.

The Ontario government has announced that it has awarded nearly 1.8 GW of capacity in its Long-Term Request for Proposals (LT1 RFP), the largest battery storage procurement in Canada’s history. The IESO selected 10 proponents in the Storage Category for a combined 1,784 MW of maximum contract capacity, and three in the Non-Storage Category for an additional 410.7 MW of natural gas and biogas generation. The projects range in size from 9 MW to 390 MW, with the two largest being located in the municipality of Arran-Elderslie and the township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal. The total capacity awarded exceeds the government’s initial target of 2,500 MW.
