NorthStar Clean Energy Launches 180-MW Solar Park in Arkansas to Power General Motors’ Operations Sustainably.

NorthStar Clean Energy has opened a 180-MW solar park in Arkansas to power General Motors’ operations in the MISO territory. The Newport PV farm is one of the largest single-axis solar sites in the state and is expected to generate enough electricity to cover the consumption of over 30,000 Arkansas homes annually. The solar park will operate under a 15-year power purchase agreement with General Motors, providing electricity for facilities in Michigan and Missouri. General Motors aims to reduce its Scope 2 energy emissions globally by using renewable electricity and has secured energy sourcing agreements to ensure 100% renewable power supply for all its US sites by 2025. The director of Global Energy Strategy for General Motors stated expanding their renewable electricity portfolio is a significant step towards reducing their carbon footprint and achieving broader sustainability goals.
