NOAA Administrator Defends Speed Limits for Boaters to Protect Endangered North Atlantic Right Whales Amid Rising Threats.

NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad defended a plan to impose speed limits on more boaters along the Atlantic Coast, stating it is necessary to protect the endangered North Atlantic right whale. Spinrad cited the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act as the primary legal basis for the proposed speed limits. He also highlighted a photo of a dead right whale after it was hit by a boater off the coast of Georgia earlier this year.
