NextEra Energy Resources saw strong growth in Q2, with the company signing development deals for over 3 GW of renewable energy, including an 860 MW deal with Google. The company also announced that it has sold a partial stake in a 1.6 GW portfolio of renewable projects to Blackstone for $900 million. Data center and heavy industry are increasingly valuing wind, solar and energy storage resources for their ease and speed of deployment compared to other energy resources. This trend has led to a trend towards localized energy projects and away from virtual power purchase agreements. Despite the rapid growth in demand for electricity, NextEra CEO Rebecca Kujawa warned that it could take years for the renewable energy sector’s developers to catch up with demand.
