New York State has approved a large-scale competitive solicitation for onshore renewable energy resources, overseen by NYSERDA. The process involves two steps: proof that a project is classified as Tier 1, submitting to a competitive bid proposal, and a competitive comparison based on both price and non-price factors. The successful bids will be announced by the end of September 2024. Both renewable energy and energy storage are considered key to achieving targets that include 70% of renewable energy on the New York grid by 2030 and the deployment of 6GW of energy storage by that date. The state estimates that adding energy storage at both large scale and distributed scales would reduce electricity system costs by about US$2 billion.
