New York on track to miss key climate goals, raising concerns among advocates over commitment to clean energy.

New York is on track to miss most of the targets set by the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, according to a report by Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration. The report stated that the state was not expected to meet the 70 percent renewable electricity by 2030 target due to offshore wind projects and upstate wind and solar development faltering. However, it also revealed that several other targets will be missed due to rising costs for clean energy projects and the Covid-19 pandemic halting construction efforts. Environmental advocates are concerned that Hochil may not commit resources necessary to reduce emissions and prevent the worsening impacts of climate change.
