The first publicly available community solar project in New Hampshire has been developed by ReVision Energy, with the goal of coming online in 2025. The project will be funded by the town of Jaffrey and residents and others in the Eversource utility territory who will be able to buy shares of the project. However, energy policies in the state have made larger publicly available projects financially unworkable. The issue lies in net metering rules, which allows consumers to offset the cost of power drawn from the grid by generating their own energy often using solar panels. The rate of reimbursement for community solar projects is lower than other states and has led to higher administrative costs. The lack of predictability and volatile electricity supply from Everspective in the area is also a barrier.
