NEC ES, a leading battery supplier in the battery energy storage system (BESS) integration space, has decided to abandon its business due to a lack of profitability. The acquisition of LG ES Vertech could combine one of the sector’s biggest names in system integration with another, NEC ES. LG ES also launched its system integration arm at the RE+ show in Las Vegas, highlighting the importance of the North American market. The company’s CEO, Jaehong Park, stated that the pause on BESS manufacturing is due to planned higher volumes of manufacturing, rather than due to expected demand. Park also highlighted the advantages of vertically integrating battery hardware and software, bringing accountabilities for all levels of project to one system integrator.
