Natron Energy Inc. is set to build its first sodium-ion battery gigafactory in North Carolina, creating over 1,000 jobs and revolutionizing energy storage. The facility will be the first in the US and will have an annual production capacity of 24 GW at full scale. Located in Edgecombe County, the factory is expected to create over 1k jobs and significantly increase Natron Energy’s production capacity. The project will be supported by a Job Development Investment Grant and funding from the North Carolina Megasite Readiness Programme for onsite preparation. The batteries, which do not require difficult-to-obtain minerals, are non-flammable and can be used in various sectors such as data centers, mobility, EV fast charging, microgrids, and telecom.
