Minnesota Power Seeks 300 MW of Solar Energy by 2027, Aiming for 100% Renewables by 2050.

Minnesota Power, a utility division of ALLETE Inc., is seeking up to 300 MW of regional solar energy by 2027. The utility’s 15-year integrated resource plan (IRP) calls for 100% renewable energy by 2050, with 300 MW generated in five years. The RFP will increase Minnesota Power’s current solar portfolio by tenfold. The company is seeking cost-effective solar resources within its service territory and direct interconnections to the company’s transmission system. Minnesota Power will give preference to projects in communities impacted by the company’s decarbonization plans and will select projects that use union labor and local labor for construction and permanent positions. Proposals will be accepted through Jan. 5, 2024.
