Middle River Power has withdrawn its plan to retire all four units at its gas-fired Elgin Energy Center in Elgin, Illinois, from June 2025. The decision comes after power prices increased by over 800% in PJM’s latest capacity auction, driven by factors like insufficient transmission planning, fossil-fired generation retirements and long interconnection queues. Middle River Power currently manages approximately 3,000 MW of power generation assets. The company has not yet responded to a request for comment.
