Microsoft has announced its largest-ever corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) for renewable energy, signing on to more than 10.5 GW of capacity in the US and Europe, with the projects set to begin construction in 2026. The deal is nearly eight times larger than any other single corporate renewable PPA. It will focus on solar and wind generation, but also include new or impactful carbon-free energy generation technologies. The portfolio will cost over $11.5 billion to build. Microsoft plans to match all its electricity consumption with net-zero energy purchases by 2030. The company is also taking steps to reduce power demand of its datacenters.
