Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel Plans Lawsuit Against Fossil Fuel Industry for Climate Change Impact

Michigan’s State Attorney General, Dana Nessel, has announced plans to sue the fossil fuel industry for contributing to climate change, potentially becoming the next state to sue them for causing climate disruption in the state. Nessel’s office is seeking proposals from lawyers and law firms to serve as special assistants to pursue such litigation. She cited climate change as a threat to Michigan’s identity and the decrease in ski season and blooms at a tulip festival as reasons for the decision. Nesse accused oil and gas companies of prioritizing profits over people and the environment, while aware of the consequences of burning fossil fuels.
