Swiss-based solar manufacturer Meyer Burger is seeking to move its operations from Germany to the US and close down its module assembly plant in Germany. The Freiburg plant is expected to halt production in the first half of March, with the plant set to close in April. This comes as other European solar manufacturers announce the shutdown of some operations in Europe. The European Solar Manufacturing Council’s secretary general, Johan Lindahl, warned that all European module manufacturers are expected to lose at least half of their modern module manufacturing capacity within the next month. Enpal, a German energy start-up, has offered to pick up Meyer Burger’s module production. The German government’s decision on implementing Solar Package I has not yet been finalised.
