Major M&A Activity in Renewables: Hafslund, Iberdrola, RWE, and Others Expand Their Energy Portfolios.

Renewables Now highlighted several notable M&A deals this week, including Norwegian power group Hafslund AS and its joint venture partner Eidsiva Energi purchasing a 208-MW wind farm in southern Norway from a fund managed by Swiss investment manager SUSI Partners. Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) is set to buy out its remaining stake in US energy services and delivery company Avangrid Inc (NYSE:AGR) in an all-cash deal worth USD 2.55 billion (EUR 2.34bn). TenneT, the Dutch and German grid operator in the Netherlands and parts of Germany, plans to tap into the capital markets to raise funds for its German operations. RWE AG (ETR:RWE) has acquired 599 MW of solar and energy storage development projects in three US states, expanding its footprint across the country. Spain’s White Summit Capital has agreed to take control of biomethane firm Ferbgas Renewable. US geothermal technology company XGS Energy has closed a $20-million in additional Series A financing to support its first commercial-scale project in California.
