LUMA Announces Power Restoration Timeline for Puerto Rico After Tropical Storm Ernesto Affects Thousands of Customers

LUMA has announced a timeline for service restoration for customers impacted by Tropical Storm Ernesto, which brought heavy rain and strong winds to Puerto Rico. The utility has restored power to 257,000 customers in the last 24 hours, with about 257,00 customers still without power due to the storm’s impact on the electrical infrastructure. The company has also experienced two power outages on the evening of Aug. 15, affecting about 4,500 customers at a substation in Carolina and eastern Puerto Rico, and impacting nearly 70,000 in the eastern part of the island. Following completion of 672 damage assessments and aerial helicopter patrols, LUMA has released its global estimated restoration time for 90% of customers by Aug. 18. The restoration process continues to be followed in accordance with its Emergency Response Plan.
