A legal battle is brewing against the Biden administration’s new clean car rule, which aims to halve greenhouse gases from cars and light trucks, and aims to have electric vehicles make up about two-thirds of new passenger vehicle sales by 2032. Critics, including fossil fuel companies and Republican lawmakers, have protested the rule, and await a decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in a lawsuit challenging a more lenient rule that was finalized in 2021. Sedina Banks, a partner with California-based law firm Greenberg Glusker, said climate change issues touch so many industries that it’s impossible to have a rule that aligns with all parties.
