Kentucky Republicans are moving to prevent Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear from electrifying the state government’s fleet of vehicles, even though the state is investing heavily in electric vehicle manufacturing. The state House passed a two-year budget bill this month, HB 6, which includes about $15 million for replacing vehicles in the state fleet, including cars in the general motor pool and specialized rides such as state police cruisers. All vehicles would have to have internal combustion engines, according to language in the budget bill. The move comes as the state seeks to become a major player in electric car manufacturing, with an estimated $11.6 billion in investment.
