Former Energy and Natural Resources Chair Joe Manchin has released a bill containing Republican priorities, including the Energy Permitting Reform Act, which aims to ease environmental reviews for solar, wind, and other renewable projects. The bill also includes a lifting of a pause on liquefied natural gas export approvals and a requirement for onshore oil and gas lease sales. It has been endorsed by the oil, gas and coal lobbies, with Dan Naatz from the Independent Petroleum Association of America stating it would improve coordination, reduce permitting wait times, remove the LNG export ban, and restore certainty to the Gulf of Mexico leasing process.
